Why we built BoldDocServer
In 2025, Microsoft set a retirement date for Office Online Server: December 31, 2026. For organizations that run SharePoint Server in their own data centers, that left a gap.
Their documents have to stay inside their own environment, which is why they kept SharePoint Server in the first place. But their people still need to open and edit files in the browser, and moving to the cloud isn’t an option for everyone.
Syncfusion already built the pieces. Our Document Editor, Spreadsheet Editor and PDF Viewer are used by developers in their own applications around the world. BoldDocServer brings them together in one Windows container that SharePoint connects to through WOPI.
The result replaces only the editing layer. SharePoint keeps storage, permissions and versioning, documents stay in your network, and prices are published up front.
